Whether you hold a medical license (MD, DO, PA) or a nursing license (RN, NP), BALA's accreditation framework is built so the time you spend in our classroom and clinic translates to license-renewal credit on the credential that matters to you. Below is a breakdown of how each pathway works and what each BALA course delivers in credit value.

ACCME

ACCME pathway for physicians and PAs

BALA courses are accredited through the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), allowing physicians (MD/DO) and physician assistants (PA) to claim AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for the clinical and didactic time spent in our programs. The Advanced Certification and Private Mentorship each yield the largest hour-based returns for medical providers.

  • Credit type: AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ (directly reportable to most state medical boards).
  • Advanced Certification — 16 AMA PRA Category 1 credits.
  • Private Mentorship — 24 AMA PRA Category 1 credits.
  • Eligibility: active MD, DO, or PA license; full attendance and post-course evaluation required.
  • Certificate of attendance issued electronically within 5 business days of course completion.

ANCC

ANCC pathway for nurses (RN, NP)

Our nurse-track pathway maps to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) contact-hour standard, accepted by every U.S. state board of nursing for RN and NP license renewal. Every BALA program earns contact hours, so nurses can apply their training time directly to their biennial renewal requirements.

  • Credit type: ANCC contact hours (accepted by all U.S. state boards of nursing for RN and NP renewal).
  • Basic Certification — 24 ANCC contact hours.
  • Advanced Certification — 12 ANCC contact hours (stacks with ACCME credits for dual-credential providers).
  • Private Mentorship — 20 ANCC contact hours.
  • Laser Certification Only — 8 ANCC contact hours.
  • Injectables Certification Only — 8 ANCC contact hours.
  • Eligibility: active RN, NP, or equivalent nursing license; theory-only option available for non-licensed students.

Will this count toward my RN licensure renewal?
Yes. Every BALA program earns ANCC contact hours, which are accepted by every U.S. state board of nursing for RN and NP biennial renewal. Submit the certificate of attendance we email after course completion to your state board along with your renewal packet — no extra paperwork or fees.
Are these credits accepted by Michigan and other state boards?
Yes. ANCC is recognized by all 50 states as an approved provider of nursing continuing education. ACCME accreditation is similarly accepted nationwide for physician (MD/DO) and physician assistant (PA) credit. If you practice in a state with CE Broker or a custom tracking system, our certificate includes the provider number and activity codes you need to log your hours.
What’s the difference between CME and CE credit?
CME (Continuing Medical Education) is the credit system used for physicians (MD/DO) and physician assistants (PA) — typically reported as AMA PRA Category 1 credits. CE (Continuing Education) is the umbrella term for all healthcare license renewal credits; nurses specifically use ANCC contact hours. Our courses are dual-accredited so nurses and physicians attending the same program each receive the credit type their board expects.
Do I need CME or CE if I already practice aesthetics?
It depends on your license and state. RNs and NPs in most states need a fixed number of contact hours per renewal cycle, regardless of specialty. Physicians and PAs have similar requirements through their medical boards. Aesthetic-specific CE is allowed in nearly every state; check with your state board if you are unsure.
How do I claim credit after I attend?
After completing the course, you will receive an emailed certificate of attendance with your name, the program, the number of credit hours, the accrediting body, and a unique activity code. Nurses typically submit that certificate to their state board at renewal; physicians self-report AMA PRA Category 1 credits through their state medical society or directly to the ACCME PARS tracker.
Is the certificate of completion provided?
Yes — every BALA graduate receives a digital certificate of completion within 5 business days of course completion. The certificate lists the credit hours, accrediting body, and provider identification number required for state-board reporting.
